Deposition of a Witness taken at the
Workhouse of saint Olave situate in the
Parish of Saint John within the Borough
of Southwark in the County of Surrey
this 7th. day of October 1795 on view of the Body of Edward Witch< no role >
now here lying Dead

David Faulkner< no role > an Apprentice to Jane Davis< no role > of
Master of the vessel called the Lincoln of Hall in Yorkshire
now lying at stantons Wharf in the parish of saint Olave
Southwark maketh Oath that between 7 & 8 OClock on Monday
Evening last Dept. being on board a Bring lying between Dept.
Vessel & and Vessel which lay next the said wharf saw a Lad
whom Dept believes to be the deced endeavouring to get from
a Lighter on board the said Brig that he jumped from the Lighter
& endeavoured to catch hold of the Brigs Cable but missing
his hold he fell into the Water that he sturk & upon coming
up the Mate of Dept. vessel caught hold of theDept.deceds that
but could not get hold of any other part of him that the deced
then sunk again and in a little time came up again That
he sunk again & in about a quarter of an hour after some persons
dragging for the deced got him up & took him to the Rose
Public House adjoining to stantons Wharf [..] where Dept.
left him.

John Balker< no role > of Sobby in [..] Master of the Brig Jumper of
Hull in Yorkshire now lying at Stantons Wharf in the Parish
of Saint Olave Southwark maketh Oath that between six &
seven Monday Eve: last Dept. being onstantons Wharf heard
a Boy had fallen overboard Dept. got some Graph being from
& after trying four or five times he looked the deced & but
him to the water edge that he got him into the Boat &
soon after took him on Shore to the Rose Public House that
the means prescribed by the humane society were tried to
Recover the deced but without effect.
