Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say at the parish of Allhallows
the Great in the Ward of Dowgate in London
aforesaid the 8th. day of August 1795 on
view of the Body of George Cowley< no role >
now here lying Dead

Joseph Forter< no role > a Waterman lodging at Mr. Cartwright the
Welch trooper Bank side Southwark maketh Oath that between
the hours of eight and ten Yesterday Morning Dept. standing on
Allhallows Stairs his partner who was standing with him sayed there
is s Man in the Water. Dept & his partner got is to a Boat at the
Stairs & Dept. put his Arm into the Water & got the deced out
that she proved to be a young Man< no role > about 20 or 26 years of age
quite naked-that he was lying in the Mead when he was first
discovered-Dept. washed the Mud off him & got him on thore
that these were no marks or Bruises about him. Dept done
think from his appearance he had been long in the Water.

Allhallows London maketh Oath that between [..] sixO Clockand
seven Yesterday Morning Dept standing on Allhallows Stairs saw
a young Man Whom he believes to be the deced strip himself &
go down the stairs into the Water-that when he had got a little
way into the Water he was taning round and appeared to be
coming towards the stairs when he sunk under the Water and
Dept. saw as more of him that some person near there got
into the Craft lying at the Stairs & endeavoured to get at the
deceased but without effect
