An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London that is to say at
the Parish of Christ Church in the ward of Farringdon within in London aforesaid on the fifth day
of August in the thirty fifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the grace
of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth before Thomas
Shelton Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of
Southwark on view of the body of William Goldsmith< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of

Curtis & Daniel Bostell< no role > and John Rutter< no role > good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid
who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the
King when how and in what manner the said William Goldsmith< no role > came to his death
say upon their oath that the said William Goldsmith< no role > on the fourth day of August in the
year aforesaid not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic and distracted
at the parish and Ward aforesaid at London aforesaid a certain pistol of the value of twelve
pence loaded with gun powder and a leaden bullet which he the said William Goldsmith< no role >
in his right hand then and there had and held to at and against the head of him the
said William Goldsmith< no role > did then and there shoot off and discharge giving to himself then
and there with the leaden bullett aforesaid so shot off and discharged from the said Pistol by
force of the Gunpowder aforesaid one mortal wound in and upon the head of him the said
William Goldsmith< no role > of the [..] of one inch and of the depth of four inches of which said
mortal wound he the said William Goldsmith< no role > did then and there instantly die
And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said William Goldsmith< no role >
not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic and distracted
did shoot and kill himself In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said
John Crowder< no role > the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows
in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year
and place first above writtn
