Wharf
in the parish aforesaid maketh oath that about nine
OClock on Friday Night last Dept. being on the Watch upon the
said Wharf having just returned from getting his Tapper
observed a Man take Depts. Larthorn off the Wharf Dept. went
to him and asked what he was going to do see sayed he believed
there was one of their Men overboard-that the said Man and live
others went from the Wharf on board the vessels that lay along side
the said Wharf after looking sometime the Men returned to the
Wharf and sayed the could not find the Man whom they believe or
had fallen over board-that two of those Man belong to a sloop
belonging to Whitby
called the Comus and which Vessel then
lay second Vessel from the Wharf and in which Vessel Dept.
understood the deced was to have worked his passage to Whitby
in the said two Men sayed the deced hadlefta little before left
the Kings Head public House a little from the Wharf in Company
with them and One of said Men who was Male of said Vessel
called the Comus sayed he had helped the deced down a Ladder
which led from the Wharf on board the first Vessel and that
when the himself had got on board the first Vessel he missed
the deced-Dept. then went to said public House and inquired
if such persons had a little before left the said House and was
there informed that they had-Dept. then returned to thesaid
Vessel that lay next the Wharf and on putting his Lanthorn down
between the Vessels he saw the deced inthe

Posture between the two Vessels his head under the Water wasthen accdy as
and the Water nearly as high as Breast-Dept. assisted to got
him on board the Vessel that a Surgeon
who had been sent for
came but sayed he cold do nothing for him as he quite dead
the Mate of the said Vessel sayed the deced was intoxicated when
he helped him down the Ladder or before stated.
