Depositions of Witnesses taken at the Work
house of Saint Olave situate in the Parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark
in the County of Surrey this 10th. day of December
1793 on view of the Body of George Phillips< no role >
now here lying Dead

Thomas Gardner< no role > a Mariner belonging to the Brig called
the Tommy whereof Thomas France< no role > is Master of the Port
of Barnstable in the County of Devon now lying off Dept ford
in the County of Kent maketh Oath that he hath known
the deced George Phillips< no role > about two Months-that he was
a Mariner belonging to the said Vessel that he was taken
on board the said Vessel at Milford in Wales-that [..]
[..] Dept. and the deced
were the only persons on board the said Vessel about eleven
OClock in the Morning of Saturday last the Vessel then lying at Pickle Harring Chain that Dept. was employed on the
Deck of the said vessel in repairing some of the Rigging that
deced was forward on the Fore castle of the said Vessel
employed in looking-that the deced went aft for something
but what Dept. don't know-that about twelve OClock Dept
heard the deced call out Thomas, Thomas, that the voice
seemed to come form the Stern of the Vessel Dept. ran after
at the same time Dept. ran aft he saw the people on board [..] a
vessel lying alongside Dept. running aft on their vessel
endeavoring to save some person whom Dept then concluded
to be the deced and the Captn. of the vessel lying alongside of
Dept. vessel sayed he saw the deced in the water and saw
him sink-that Dept. searched the vessel after George Phillips< no role > and he
was missing from which Dept. concluded it to be him that
last fallen overboard-that Dept. saw the deced whoand George
Phillips
proved to be the [..] said George Phillips< no role > taken up abt of the Water dead
a little way from Dept. vessel on Sunday afternoon last-that he was taken on
Shore by the person who took him up

John Whittle< no role > a Fisherman lodging at the House of
Charles Wilbraham< no role > at the White Lion Bank side in the
Parish of Saint Saviour within the Borough of Southwark
maketh Oath that Dept. being in his Boat with one John Pang [..] off Pickle Herring< no role >
Stairs about ¾ after One on Sunday afternoon last and
having a Grappling Iron down he and John Pang burn
drawed the Grappling up to the Edge of the Water they
discovered the deced-that they got the deced into the Boat
