he was sorry he had abused the Grand Jury and Mr.
Kirby which Dept [..] how since understood the deced. did
on the Saturday Morning the deced sayed he was really
sorry he had so abused them but he was so much distreped
about his Wife having been Writing & a Letter and his
trouble so great he really id not know what he did
he was afraid the World would frown upon her that his
Brothers and kept our took care of her and the deced.
then burst into a flood of Tears and remained silent
some Minutes-the deced. then caught hold of Dept.
hand and requested he would not leave him until
he had drank with him Dept then sent for a Pot of
Porter and drank to the deced and then gave the Pot to the
deced who drank very little and put [..] it down on the
Table Dept took hand with the deced who sayed
to Dept God bless you God bless you Mr. Pitt I am very
much distressed about by dear Wife and I don't know
what will become of one I hope God will reward you
and your family for it don't lay in my power Dept.
then a took hands with the deced who fall a crying and
would not let Dept. go Dept got his hand from the
deced and was leaving [..] him when he called Dept.
back again and caught hold of Dept hand that he
appeared very much [..] flurried about agitated
sayed God bless you I wish you good Night and then
Dept left himDept thought at the time the aforesaid
conversation in took place the deced looked every wild and
behaved differently to what he had done before

maketh Oath that Yesterday Morning about ½ past Nine
he went with Benjamin PItt< no role > John Owen< no role > and another
Person to the deced Cell that upon the Door being opened
he found the deced hanging in the manner described by
Benjamin Pitt< no role > Dept examined the deced. that he was
quite Cold and Dead and must have hanged several
hoursthat under some Writing Paper on the deceds
Table Dept. found two Letters now produced one of which
is directed to Mr. John Pitt< no role > Turnkey -and was intended on Dept.
believes for the last Witness the other Letter is directed as follows
