Benjamin Pitt< no role > Servant and one of the Unkeepers to
Mr. John Kirby< no role > the Keeper of His Majesty's Goal of Newgate
maketh Oath that he locked the deced Lawrence Jones< no role > a
Convict under Sentence of Death and ordered for execution
on Wednesday next into the Cell in Newgate where he was
confined about ½ past five in the Evening of Saturday
last having previously chained him to the Floor the
Chain presents the person who is chained from getting to
the Window that the deced at the time Dept abt him
appeared very low in which that he had a Night Gown
and a Cap on and his stocking his with Garters of a Red
and White Colour that Yesterday about ½ past nine in
the Morning Dept went to unlock the Cell Door wherein
he had left the deced the proceeding Evening [..] in order
to take the deced Breakfast to him that upon opening the
Cell Door he found the deced. hanging by Air Garters
fastened round the end of an Iron Ball that goes through
the Wall of the Cell that he was quite suspended from the
Floor that he was quite dead and cold and must have
hanged sometime Dept. locked the Cell Door and under
and acquainted his Matter Mr. Kirby who with Owen
Dept. & and the person returned to the Cell that Owen
cut the deced down and placed him on his Bed [..]

John Pitt< no role > one of the under keepers of Newgate maketh
Oath that he was with the last Witness at the time of the deced was locked
up on the Saturday [..] Evening that Dept assisted in
Chaining the deced. to the Floor that while Dept was so
doing the deced. asked Dept. why he would not drink a
Bottle of Wine with him Dept. answered and sayed he
would rather not the deced. sayed he wondered Dept.
would not come into him Dept answered it being a
Busy time with the sessions he could not deced. sayed
