An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London that is to say,
at the parish of Saint Botolph Billinsgate in the ward of Billinsgate in London aforesaid on the twenty
second day of September in the thirty second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord< no role > George the third
by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth Before
Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of
Southwark on view of the body of James Boyle< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of William
Byford, Robert Haldey< no role > , William Taylor< no role > , Joseph Roome< no role > , William Coates< no role > , Richard Gardner< no role > , John
Rice, William Leneave< no role > , Robert Burch< no role > , John Price< no role > , John Coleman< no role > , Barnard Skers< no role > , Thomas
Goodin and John Bates< no role > good and lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here duly
Chosen Sworn and charged to Inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner
the said James Boyle< no role > came to his death say upon their Oath that the said James Boyle< no role > on the
twenty first day of September in the year aforesaid being employed in lowering a Barrell of
Porter from a certain Quay there situate collect Smarts Quay into the hold of a certain Vessel then
lying at the said Quay by means of accertain Wheel Crane It so happened that the head of him the
said James Boyle< no role > was accidentally Casually and by misfortune Jammid between one of the
Spokes of the said Crane and the Upright Post belonging to the said Crane by means whereof he she
said James Bogle< no role > did then and there receive om Mortal bruise and Contusion in and upon his
said head Of which said mortal bruise and contusion he the said James Bogle< no role > did then and
then die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said James
Bogle in manner and by the means aforesaid casually and to misfortune was accidentally
killed And that the said Crane was moving to the death of the said James Bogle< no role >
and is of the value of one shilting and the property and in the possession of a certain
person or persons whose name or names to the Jurors aforesaid is or are as yet unknown
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said William Byford< no role > the
Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their
presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place
first above written.
