An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at Lord that is to say at the Parish of Saint
Helen in the Ward of Bishopsgate within in London afsd on the sixth day of Septr . in the thrity third year of the
Reign of our Sovereign Lord< no role > George the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King defender
of the faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our sd. Lord the King for the City of
London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of James [..] now here lying dead by the
Oath of Thomas Greenaway< no role > , Jonah Cooper, Thomas Watkins< no role > , Willm Pocock< no role > , James Abbis< no role > , Richd Custin, Edward
Carter, John Holmes< no role > , Samuel [..] , Richard Philp< no role > , Samuel Oldman< no role > , John Boughey< no role > , Jona Punscon, Thomas
Cook, Willm Bamford< no role > , good & lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn
& charged to inquire for our sd Lord the King when how & in what manner the sd James Stevenson< no role > came
to his Death say upon their Oath that the sd certain person whose name to the Jurors afsd is unknown
on the Sixth day of December in the year afd at the psh & Ward afsd in Lond afsd being lowering a certain Bale
of Sail Cloth of great Weight from & out of a certain [..] Warehouse there belonging to Wm Hall
of the parish & Ward aforesaid Packer & the sd James Stevenson< no role > being standing in a certain Cart near the sd
Warehouse and under the said Bale of Cloth white the same was so lowering as afsd in order to receive the sd
Bale of Cloth into the Sd Cart It so happened that one of the sd Hooks by which the sd Bale of Cloth way
Suspended accidentally casually and by misfortune gave way And the said Bale of Cloth fall with great
force and violence into the said Cart and to and against the sd James Stevenson< no role > by means whereof the
said James Stevenson< no role > was forced from and out of the sd Cart to andagainstupon the Ground and against
the Stone pavement there Whereby the said James Stevenson< no role > did then and there receive one mortal
bruise and contusion in and upon the Back part of the head of him the said James Stevenson< no role > of which
said mortal bruise and contusion the sd James Stevenson< no role > did then and there die And so the Jurors aforesaid
upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the sd James Stevenson< no role > in manner by the means aforesaid casually
and by misfortune accidentally killed and that the said Bale of Cloth was moving to the death of the
said James Stevenson< no role > and is of the value of 1s and the property and in the possession of Mr Fenning of Rood
Lane Fattor< no role > . In Witness whereof as well the sd. Coroner as the sd Thomas Greenaway< no role > the foreman of
the sd Jurors on behalf of himself and the next of his fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition at their
hands and Seals the day year and Place first abovewritten.
