Informations of Witnesses taken
at the Parish of Saint George within the
Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey on the 11th day of November 1791 on
view of the Body of John Davies< no role > now
here lying dead

Thomas Collison< no role > Clerk to Mr. Joshua Lee< no role > of No. 223 Borough high
Street in the Parish of Saint George within the Borough of Southwark
Hop Tractor maketh Oath that about ½ past Seven O'Clock in the Evening
of Wednesday last on Dept. going into a Stable in the Yard behind Mr. Lee
Dwelling house for the purpose of seeing after the deced who was Porter
to Mr. Lee he found him lying down upon some Straw in one of the Stalls
of the Stable alongside a Horse belonging to said Mr. Lee that the deced
was then asleepDept. called to the deced several times in order to awaken
him but could notDept then left him that in about ten Minutes after dept. returned again to the
deced and told him his Master was coming the deced answered that he
was very drunk and could not get upThat the deced endeavoured to get
up but could not that hecouldcaught hold of a Ladder that stood at the bottom
of the Stall [..] a little distance from the hinder part of the HorseDept. then
left himthat in a little time after Dept. returned again to the Stable with
one Stanston another Porter of Mr. Lees for the purpose of getting the deced
out of the Stablethat they found the deced lying down on the Straw along
side the Horse near in the same position as when Dept. first found him
that he was then asleepthat Hansley went towards the Head of the
Horse for the purpose of lifting the deced upthat Hanstey [..] took hold
of the deced by the Shoulders and lifted him up upon his bottom that when
he had lifted the deced a little up the deced by some means fell down with
his head towards the Horses hinder legs that the Horse immediately
began kicking very violentlythat Hanstey immediately cryed out
that his Leg and Arm were brokenDept. ran out of the Stable to
call some otherof Mr. LeesMen tocomego and assist in getting Henstey
and the deced out of the Stable that Dept. immediately returned and
found Hanstey standing by the Door of the Stablethat he appeared
very much Hurtthat they found the deced lying behind the Horse
with downon the Stones of the Stablethat the deced was taken
out of the Stable that his face appeared very bloody that he was quite
dead.
