An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London that the
say at the parish of All hallows Bread Street in the Ward of Bread Street in London
aforesaid on the eleventh day of April in the thirty first year of the Reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King
defender of the saith and forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of
our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the
Body John Cross< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of William Smith< no role > John Vastens< no role >
William Simmons< no role > John Forbes< no role > John Bill< no role > , Shivhard Cator< no role > Pearson Walton< no role >
Crozier Fletcher< no role > Potter Spiers< no role > John Clifford< no role > John Varney< no role > William Sharp< no role >
William Thomas< no role > JohnShaw < no role > good and lawful Men of the City of London
aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our
said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said John Croft< no role > came to
his death say upon their sath that the said John Cross< no role > on the ninth day of
April in the Year aforesaid being in a certain Room belonging to a certain
public Inn there situate called the three Cups Inn It so happened that the
said Inn and the said Room wherein the said John Croft< no role > was as aforesaid
Accidentally casually and his misfortune caught fire and was consumed and
the said John Crofts< no role > so then bad there being in the said room of the said
Inn with the flame of the said fire was then and there mortally surned
of which said burning he the said John Croft< no role > [..] did then and there die
And so the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do say that the said John
Croft in manner and by the means aforesaid casually and by misfortune
was accidentally burned and killed In Witness whereof as well the said
Coroner as the said William Smith< no role > the Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf
of himself and the rest of his fellows [..] in their presence have to this Inquisition
set their hand and unto the day year and place first abovewritten
