An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London, that is to say, at the
parish of Saint Sepulchre in the ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid on the twenty third day
of September in the thirtieth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of
Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth Before Thomas Shelton< no role >
Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of
the Body of Richard Johnson< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of Jonathan Perkins< no role > John Phitheon, William
King William Catchpole< no role > William Puckridge< no role > , Henry Wetherhead< no role > , John Blackett< no role > , John Whales< no role > , William
Brown John John< no role > Bush, Ralph Monk< no role > , James Freshfield< no role > , Nathaniel Streat< no role > , William Valentine< no role >
John Dolphin< no role > Peter White< no role > and James Crippen good and lawful Men of the City of London aforesaid who being
now here duly chosen sworn and charged to Inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what
manner the said Richard Johnson< no role > came to his death say upon their Oath that the said Richard Johnson< no role >
on the twentieth day of September in the Year aforesaid being employed in the unloacking of a certain Cart
load of Hops then being in the Yard of a certain Inn called the George Inn situate in West smithfield in
the City of London aforesaid And the said Richard Johnson< no role > then being in the said Cart and the said
Hops being then and there packed up in certain large bags called Pockets It so happened that the said
Richard Johnson< no role > did then and there fall from and out of the said Cart and that one of the said Bags of
Hops called Pockets did then and there accidentally casually and by misfortune fall with great force
and violence from and off the said Cart and to upon and over the said Richard Johnson< no role > And that he
the said Richard Johnson< no role > was then and there forcibly and violently cast and thrown to at and upon the Ground there
By means whereof he the said Richard Johnson< no role > did then and there Receive divers mortal wounds and
bruises in and upon the head face back Sides Arms legs and thighs of him the said Richard Johnson< no role > of
which said Mortal Wounds and bruises he the said Richard Johnson< no role > from the said twentieth day
of September in the Year aforesaid until the twenty second day of September in the Year aforesaid did
languish and languishing did live On which said twenty second day of September in the Year aforesaid
he the said Richard Johnson< no role > at the parish and ward aforesaid in London aforesaid of the said mortal Wounds and bruises did die And so
the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Richard Johnson< no role > in manner
and by the means aforesaid casually and by misfortune was accidentally killed In Witness
as well the said Coroner as the said Jonathan Perkins< no role > the Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf
of himself and the rest of his Fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and
Seals the day Year andPlace first above written.
