Monies received for the Parish, near £170.-that several
Bills on the Parish Account to the amount of £328. and
upwards (including £213..11..10. due to Mr. Phillips Master< no role >
of the Workhouse ) remained unpaid-that upon the first
report of the Mr. Smith's Insolvency, the Church Wardens had
applied to him to give some security for what was due
to the Parish-that they had obtained a Bill for £300.
drawn on one Mr. Jas. Peto, which was refused acceptance
and afterwards took an assignment with a power of-
attorney from Mr. Smith to receive that sum of Mr. Peto, but
a Commission of Bankruptcy having issued agt. Mr. Smith
before said £300. became payable, there was now no
prospect of receiving more from his Effects than would be
produced from the Commission, in common with other Creditors,
and it was understood the Estate would not produce above
Seven Shillings and Six Pence in the pounds.

And Mr. Church Warden Dod laid before the Vestry a State
of Mr. Smith's account, as receiv'd from himself, distinguish-
ing the several Items of Monies received and paid, and
upon which the said deficiency of near £470. remained
as a Balance against him. And the said Account being
further explained by Mr. Tutet, and the matter fully discuss'd
It appeared to be the Sense of the Vestry, that it was proper
to consider, not only of raising a sum of Money to make
up the aforesaid deficiency, but to guard against and
prevent (as far as possible) any accident of the same
sort happening in future.

With regard to the raising a sum of Money, Mr.
Tutet observed that there had been a meeting the
preceding Evening of several of the Inhabitants who had
Pass'd the Chair and that they had agreed to lay two
Propositions befoer this Vestry for their Consideration-and
the same being read and an amendment made thereto
It was moved

1st. That the Church Wardens be empowered to raise a
sum of Money not exceeding Three Hundred Pounds on the
