thinkfit-that the said Committee of City Lands then
acquainted them that incase the Petitioners thought
proper to make the proposed Alteration themselves
they would recommend to the Court of Common Council
the granting the Petitioners the City's Powers to enable
them to make the Purchases recommended in the
Surveyors Report and that when they had ascertained
the Money the should want of the City in Aid of the
Undertaking
they should make a fresh Application
for such Aid-Mr: Ponder then further stated that
from sundry Hints which dropped from several
Members of the said Committee during their Attendance
on them it appeared both to him and the Deputation
with him that there was little Chance of their procuring
more from the City on the Occasion than from £250 to
£300
And the said Matter being taken into Consideration & this
Committee being of Opinion that the Purchase of the Interests
of Sir John Cass< no role >
's Trustees and Mr. Gough would amount
to so very large a Sum of Money more than they could
expect of the City from Mr Ponders said Report and as they
have no Means of themselves of raising the Difference
and several other Difficulties occurring to the
proceeding further in the Matter at present It was
therefore Resolved that it is the Opinion of the Committee
that any further proceeding's in the proposed
Improvement should be deferred till the Expiration
of Mr. Gough's Lease or some more favorable
Opportunity should offer [..] for taking it up
again
And then the other Matter referred to this Committee
by Vestry on the 7th. May last vizt. "to consider if any
"and what Allowances ought to be made to the Church
"wardens for Expences of pairsh Meetings" was
entered upon and debated
And it was resolved that it be recommended to Vestry
that the Churchwarden should be allowed to expend
any Sum not exceeding £5:5:.. quarterly at the making
the Poor Rates-any Sum not exceeding £1-10-..-
quarterly for calling his Overseers together to make out an Account of
their Deficiences and settle their Collections-and any
Sum not exceeding £5:5:.. annually on auditing the
Upper Churchwardens Accounts
