Agnes Godfrey< no role > the Widow of John Godfrey< no role > deced
maketh oath that by Virtue of a Vagrant order or Warrant under
the hand & Seal of John Levy< no role > Esquire one of his Majesties Justices
of the Peace in & for the County of Surry bearing date the eighth
of December instant She this Deponent with her three Children
hereinafter named were removed from the Parish of Saint Saviour
Southwark in the County of Surry to the Parish of Saint Botolph
without Aldgate in the County of Middlesex as the Place of her last
legal Settlement although in truth She this Deponent never wandered
or begged nor to her knowledge or belief ever Committed any Act
of Vagrancy in the Said Parish of Saint Saviour Southwark as a
reason or Foundation for granting Such order; That about Eight
years ago this Deponents Said late husband took & rented of one Mr
Robert Clarke< no role > a Dwelling house at the yearly Rent of nine Pounds
& Fifteen Shillings Situate in that part of the Parish of Romsey
Called the Hundred in the County of Southampton the which place
or District So Called the hundred have Overseers of the Poor Annually
appointed for the same & make Rates for the maintenance of the Poor
resident therein That this Deponents said late husband with this Depont
& their Children lived in Such house for the Space of Six months That the
Said house Previous to this Deponents said husbands taking the same
& during this residence the rein was of the yearly Value of; & worth to be let to a Tenant at the yearly Rent
of Ten Pounds & upwards; & had the said Mr. Clarke required Such yearly
Rent or Value for the said house; this Deponts sd husband would freely have
given him; the same therefore; And the reason which induced the said Mr
Clark to let the said house; at the yearly rent of Nine Pounds & fifteen
Shillings only; to this Deponents sd husband & the Tenant who Preceeded him
was to prevent his being Called upon to Serve upon Jurys at the
Assizes as she this Deponent was then Credibly informed & believes & was so
reported & Understood in the Neighbourhood there; That after this Deponts
said husband left the said house the same was let for more than the yearly
Rent of Ten Pounds as she this Deponent has been Credibly informed and
believes Without any Addition or Improvement Made thereto And that
She this Deponent hath three Children by her said husband namely John
aged

and that they have not nor hath eithr of them gained any Settlement by
any act or acts of his or their own.
