Select Committee appointed to consist
of 15 Govrs: to enquire into the Revenue
expenditure standing Orders and management
of the Hospitals


a Select Committee be appointed to inquire into the Revenue expenditure the
Standing Orders and management of the Hospitals of Bridewell and Bethlem
and to Report to the General Court as soon as possible what regulations and
improvements may be adopted for the greater benefit of the two Hospitals
and the Question being put it was carried in the affirmative And it is
Ordered that the said Committee shall consist of fifteen Governors and that
seven be a Quorum and that the following Gentleman be of the Committee

Waddington
< no role > Esqr . Mr. William Powell< no role > John Holliday< no role > Esqr . Mr. Deputy Richard
Brewer
< no role > Mr. John Bridges< no role > Robert Cawne< no role > Esqr . Mr. Deputy John Nichols< no role >
Edward Bigg Esqr . Thomas Buckworth< no role > Esqr . John Puget< no role > Esqr . Benjamin
Tebbs
< no role > Esquire Mr. William Staines< no role > and Mr. Francis Revington And
it is further Ordered that the said Committee be assisted by all
the Officers of these Hospitals in such Manner as they shall direct
and that the said Committee be at liberty to call for all Records
Deeds Books Papers and Writings belonging to these Hospitals and
that the said Committee be summoned to meet at Bridewell Hospital
on Thursday the 19th. of January Instant at 10 for 11 O Clock in the
forenoon with liberty to adjourn and meet at such place or places
and at such time as they shall think Proper.

Treasurer to lay out £3000 in a
fortnight in the purchase of 3 per Cent
Bank Annuities or give Security for £6000


At this Court a Motion was made and seconded that the
Treasurer shall within a fortnight either lay out the sum of £3000
in the purchase of three per Cent Bank Annuities In Trust for these
Hospitals or give Security in the Sum of £6000 for all Moneys come
to his Hands and the Question being put it was carried in the
Affirmative.

Governor appointed or elected into any
Officer belonging to the Hospital with
a Salary annexed shall resign his Staff


A Motion being made pursuant to Notice given at the last
General Court and seconded That in future if any Governor shall be
Appointed or Elected into any Office belonging to these Hospitals with a
Salary annexed he shall immediately resign his Staff as a Governor thereof
and the Question being put it was carried in the Affirmative.

Officers receiving as Salary from the
Hospitals in future not to be admitted
a Governor


A Motion being made pursuant to Notice given at the last General
Court and seconded That in future not any Officer receiving a Salary from
these Hospitals shall be admitted a Governor thereof and the Question being
put it was carried in the affirmative.

At this Court an Extract of the Will of Doctor William Pitcairn< no role >
dated the 22nd day of February 1790 whereby he gave £50 to Bridewell
and Bethlem Hospitals was Read.
