on their Proposal of the
Bridge Committee
At a Committee held at Bridewell Hospital
on Tuesday the 26th. July
Instant the Worshipful the treasurer
& Committee made their Report to this Court
in the Words & Figures or to the Effect following.
Upon Reading an Order of the Worshipful the Committee for Building
a Bridge cross the River Thames
from Black Fryars
in the City of London
to the opposite side in the County of Surry and the Proposal and Plan of
their Worships Surveyor thereunto annexed or referred to, And also upon
Reading a Report of John Woodhouse< no role >

of this Hospital bearing Date
28th. June last and another Report of the Surveyor of this Hospital bearing Date 24th.
Day of July Instant And upon Examining the Maps Plans & other Evidence
belonging to the said Hospital And this Committee having taken a View
of all the Lands Tenements & Heredits mentioned or specified in the said
Proposal Maps and Plans and having considered the several Acts of
Parliament which do or may affect the same are of Opinion
1st.
That the Dock called Bridewell Dock
(Exclusive of the New Cut made
in Pursuance of an Act of 22d Chas. 2d.) and all the Land on the West side
of the said Dock and Cut between the said Hospital and the River Thames
as well the Vacant Ground as that which has been from time to time covered
and Built upon within Bridewell Precinct
are and immemorially have been
part of the Property and Possessions of the said Hospital and of the Royal
Possesors and Donor from whom they claim or derive their Title And that
(as well since as before the passing the said Act of 22d Chas. 2d) every part
thereof hath been peaceably and without the least Interruption Enjoyed and
every Act of Ownership exercised in and upon the same by the governors
of
the said Hospital their Under tenants or Lessees and that therefore nothing
should be paid by the said Hospital for the future Benefit or Enjoyment
of such Lands but on the contrary if any part thereof is necessary for the
Purpose of making an Avenue Way or Passage to the said Bridge a
reasonable Sum of Money or other Satisfaction ought to be paid or allowed
to the said Hospital in that Respect

That the Surface or Top of the Soil of the Street proposed to be made
between the said Bridge and Fleet Street
cannot (Consistent with the
Power and Direction given by the Act passed in the 29th. Year of his late
Majesty King George the 2d. for Building the said Bridge) be raised higher
than the Surface or Superficies of the Streets or Passages at the Fine
of passing such Act on each side of and running Paralel with the said
Channel and in Case the same should be made or raised as high as the
Top or Mouth of the Drain or Brickwork already Erected in such intended
Street or higher than the Streets or Passages leading into the said Hospital
the raising thereof will be extremely inconvenient and Prejudicial to the
said Hospital.

That if so much of the Outer Court of the said Hospital and the Buildings
Erected thereon as proposed by the said Plan should be taken down It will
not only be attended with great Expence but will very much diminish
and Damnity the Charity by deprising Two of the Arts Masters and
Hemp Dresser already Elected and Established in the said Hospital of their
