Mr. Kinleside and Mr. Read two of the governors Reported
that in Pursuance of an Order of Court of the 19 March last
they had made an Enquiry and found that John Holford< no role > who
Served his Apprentiship with Mr. Jeffry Gillingham< no role > one of
the Artsmasters of this Hospital and is Setup for himself
in his Trade and has the Character of a Diligent & Sober
Man It is Ordered that the Steward do pay the said
John Holford< no role > Ten Pounds out of Mr. Locks Gift to be allow'd
him in his next Account

Gratuity of £25 to
Saml. Mackley< no role >


A Motion being made that in regard to the Extraordinary
Diligence of Samuel Mackley< no role > the Porter of this Hospital, a
Gratuity be given him to his good Services for time Past
And the Sum of Twenty five Pounds being now proposed and
the Question thereupon put It is thereupon Ordered that
the Clerk of these Hospital do pay the said Saml. Mackley< no role >
Twenty five Pounds as a Gratuity for his said Services

Gratuities to Beadles
& Porters Men 40s Each


Upon Reading the Humble Petition of the four Beadles &
Porters Man of this Hospital for their Usual Gratuities of 40s
a piece for the half Year ending Midsummer next for their
Salaries are but Small It is Ordered that the Clerk of this
Hospital do give and pay to them 40s. a Piece to be allowed
him in his next Account

The like to Basket Men
of 20s. Each


Upon Reading the Humble Petition of the Three Basket Men
of Bethlem for their usual Gratuities of 20s. a Piece for the
half Year ending at Midsummer next for their Salaries are
but small It is Ordered that the Clerk of these Hospitals
do give and pay unto them 20s. a piece to be allowed him in
his next Account

It is Ordered that Thomas Kerton< no role > be put out Apprentice in
this Hospital to Lawrence Wingfield< no role > This name instance is in a workspace. at the Nomination of Mr.
Wm. Kinleside< no role > upon his the Said Mr. Kinlesides Entering into a Bond
in the Penalty of £50 That the said Thos. Kerton< no role > shall not become
chargeable to the Precinct of Bridewell The Parish Officers of Kirkby
Stephen in the County of Westmorland having refused to Grant the
said thos. Kerton a Certificate of his Settlement not with standing his
Father is an Inhabitant legally Settled there in and the said Thos.
