Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of Bridewell Hospital bearing
date the 12th. October last under the hands of the Worshipfull Robert Bishop< no role >
Esqr. Trear , Mr. Deputy Hodges, Philip Searth< no role > Esqr . Mr. Mark Holman< no role > , Mr.
Deputy Snart & Mr. Deputy Ballard in the words and figures following Vizt.
In Pursuance of several orders of this Court bearing date respectively
the 6th. of May and 17th. of February 1736. and the 23d. June 1737. this Comittee
took into Consideration the joint Petition of William Mosson< no role > & Robert Thompson< no role >
the joint Petition of Philip, Forrester< no role > and John Palmer< no role > and the Petition of Silas
Palmer
< no role > praying a Lease of One moiety or half part being the North part of
All that Range or Stock of Twenty Houses in the Precinct of Bridewell London
abutting East upon King Edward street , West upon Water street , North upon
Tudor street and South upon the other moiety of the said Range or Stock and
distinguished by the Comittee to be the Lott markt with the Letter E Except
two foot and breadth at the South end thereof extending from Water Street to
King Edward street which is to be added to the other moiety being the Lott
markt E. to make the same of equal dimensions with the said Lott F.
(being part of the possessions of the said Hospital of Bridewell ) for Sixty
one years to commence from Christmas next 1737.And this Comittee
also reced proposalls from John Smither< no role > and John Howlett< no role > for a Lease
of the same premisses for Sixty one yearsAnd the Comee having
viewed the premisses the several persons above named were called in and
proposed to pay a Pepper Corn Rent for the first year and for there sidue
of the Term the Rent hereunder mentioned without any Deduction or abo [..]
for Parliamentary or other Taxes or Charges whatsoever and to pay the Fines
undermentioned To pull down the said Houses and to build instead thereof
Eight Brick Mesuages according to the second rate of Building in London
and with good and sufficient Scanthings of Timber and to accept at their
Charge a Lease of the said premisses with such Covenants as are usually
contained in Building Leases from the Governors to their Tenants and also a
Covenant not to Lett or use the premisses or any part thereof to or for a
Slaughter house or Sugar house or any Trade that may be noisome or offensive
to the Neighbours And a Covenant to pay to the Chappell Wardens of the said
Precinct for the time being such Sum and Sums of money quarterly in proportion [..]
with other Occupyers of Ground and Houses in the said Precinct towards the
Charge of the Scavenger Watch and Poor of the said Precinct as shall be rated
or assessed from time to time at the usual Meetings of the Chappell Wardens
and Inhabitants of the said Precinct and to execute a Counterpart of such
Lease and the above named persons being called in made the following
proposals Vizt.

proposalsWhereupon this Committee having considered the said
several proposals are of opinion to accept the proposals of John Hewlett< no role >
and John Smither< no role > All which is nevertheless submitted to the
Judgment of the CourtAnd it is ordered this opinion be reported
to the next CourtThis Court doth confirm the said Report
and order that a Lease be made to the said John Hewlett< no role > and John Smither< no role >
accordingly.
