Upon reading a Report from the Committee of this House bearing date
the 9th. of February last under the hands of the Right Worspll. Robert

In Pursuance of an Order of Court of the 27th. of October last This Comee
takeing into Consideration the petition of John Baker< no role > of the Parish of St.
Leonard Shoreditch Carpenter praying a Lease or Leases of all the Houses in
Globe Yard in Old Bethlem for 61 years and proposing to build there on Six
Houses in Front and as many houses Downwards as the Ground will permit
and to pays £35. P Ann Rent clear of all Taxes and a fine of £150. and to
execute Counterparts of the said Leases and the first Year at a pepper Corn
RentThe said John Baker< no role > now altered his proposals, and proposed to this
Comee to take a Lease or Leases of three houses on the East side of Globe
Yard Vizt. one on the South side of the passage leading to Bethlem
Court and two on the North side of the same passage for the Term of
Sixty years to commence from Laday 1738 and also to take a Lease or
Leases of the rest of the Ground & Buildings in Globe Yard aforesaid
and two Swann Yard in Old Bethlem the whole Ground containing
in front 108 foot and in depth 256 foot or thereabouts for the term of 61
years from Laday next and to pay to pepper Corn Rent for the first year of
the said Term of 61 years for such of the premes which he proposed to take
for that Term and to pay the Rent of £55 a Year clear of Taxes by
quarterly payments for all the premes abovesaid for the Term of
60 Years to commence from Laday 1738 and to pay to fine of £200.
the Leases to be made with such Covenants as are usually granted from
the Governors to their Tenants at Bethlem and the said John Baker< no role >
to have the Old Materials, and he proposed to build on the said Ground
and premes 6 Houses in front and 20 Houses backwards and to make a
Street 13 or 14 foot wide and a passage 9 foot wide out of Bethlem
street open to the Sky and leave the passage open into Bethlem Court
as it now is and build the front Houses according to the second rate of
Building, and all the rest to be brick houses with party Walls, and to
Execute Counterparts of the said LeasesMr. Edward Gibbs< no role > of the
Parish of Sr. Buttolph without Bishopsgate London Carpenter proposed for
the same premes for a term of 61 years from Mich next to pay a pepper Corn
Rent for the first Year and £50. P Ann for the residue of the Term and to pay
£100. for a fine or in lieu thereof to make up the Rent £60. P Ann and to
build on the said Ground 22 Houses, & to build according to the second rate of
Building 5 Houses in the frontMr. George Graves< no role > likewise proposed
to take a Lease for 61 years of the Ground & premes for which the said John
Baker
< no role > hath above proposed to comence from Laday next at a pepper Corn
Rent for the first year & £20. P Ann for the remaining 60 years and to
pay a Fine of £250. and likewise proposed to take a Lease of a peice of
Ground on the South side of Bethlem Street (now in Lease to Isabella Finch< no role >
for a Term of years which expires at Xmas 1742) for 56 years & ½ to commence
from the Expiration of the said Lease at £20. P Ann rent clear of all Taxes
and to pay a Fine of £150. or otherwise to take the same Subject to the Lease
in being and pay the Arrears due. 4 thereon having an Assignmt. there of
and to give £500. fine and £50. P Ann Rent as well for the said last mentioned
Premes as for the premes for which the said John Baker< no role > above proposed, for a term of
61 years from Laday next but refused to take the ground for wch. Baker proposed,
without the said Ground on the South side of Bethlem Street Whereupon
this Comee having considered the said several proposals are of Opinion to accept
the proposal of the said John Baker< no role > Upon which he gave a Guinea to the poor's Cox
All which is nevertheless submitted to the Judgment of the CourtAnd it is
ordered this opinion be reported to the next CourtThis Court doth
confirm the said Report & Order that a Lease or Leases be made to the
said Mr. Baker accordingly.
