December 1710 which Report is in these words following Vizt
This Comittee in pursuance of an Order made at a Court
holden at this Hospital the 21th. day of July last took
into Consideracon the Petition of Wm Empson< no role >
that day preferred
to the Court Settingforth That he was then under Suspention
from his Office of Porter
of this Hospital upon the Report of
the Comittee of this House that he had been guilty of Severall
neglects in the P formeance of his said office but what
Omissions had been were through Ignorance and not out of
a Wilful neglect of his duty And that if by reason of his great
Age he should be thought incapable of performeing the
duty of his Office to the Satisfaccon of the Governors. he
had rather Resigne than insurr their displeasure And in
respect to his great age indispolion of body great familly
and long Service praying that they would allow him
something for his life And the said William Empson< no role >
being
called in was asked what allowance he would desire to
have in case he should be dismissed from his said Office
he Answered he should be very well contented with the
Sallary which is £24 P Ann And being askd in Case ye
Court should thinke fitt to Continue him in his office wch
an Assistant what he would be Contented to allow Surr
Assistant he said £10 P ann and then withdrew And
this Comittee haveing duely weighed and Considered of
the whole matter are of Opinion that the said William
Empson< no role >
is incapable of P formeing the Office of Porter
of this Hospital And if the Court shall thinke fitt to
