This Informant sayeth that on Fryday the Eighteenth day of this Instant
March he in aid of Samuel Bray< no role > as Constable for the said City and Liberty
who had before charged this Informant for that purpose was carrying one
Anne Dickins< no role > This name instance is in set 3817. a lewd woman of the Town and then in the Custody of the
said Samuel Bray< no role > to secure her in the Watch-House till she could be had
before a Justice of Peace, but as he this Informant was going over Covent
Garden in company with the said Samuel Bray< no role > he, the said Samuel Bray< no role >
and other his Assistants were without the least provocation given by them
violently assaulted by William Arch< no role > Jeremiah Tooley< no role > and John Clawson< no role >
who with dread full oaths and Imprecations with their swords drawn
demanded of the said Samuel Bray< no role > the said Anne Dickins< no role > This name instance is in set 3817. where upon
the said Samuel Bray< no role > acquainted them that he was the Queens officer
and that the woman was his prisoner and shewed them his Constable
staff and charged them in her Majestyes name to keep the Peace upon
which the said Arch, Tooley, and Clawson seem'd pacified and put up
their swords and went a little way off and this informant and the said
Constable and his Assistants went about their business, but the said Arch
Tooley and Clawson soon returned again upon them and in the same violent
manner (without the least provocation given as aforesaid) assaulted the
said Constable and his Assistants with their drawn swords and this Informt:
living last before made off with his prisoner to the Watch-House to
secure her and get further aid where he foundthe John Dent< no role > This name instance is in set 2759. and
Foulk withers< no role > whom this Informant told that the said Constable
and his Assistants were assaulted with natred swords by Soldiers and that
he feared murder might Ensue and therefore begged of them for Gods
sake to go to the aid of the said Constable and his Assistants upon where
the said John Dent< no role > and [..] Withers imediately went and presently
after this Informant may told that the said John Dent< no role > was wounded
by the said Arch Tooley and Clawson or one of them whereof in a very little time
after [..] as this Informant verily believes the said John Dent< no role > died and this
Informant further sayeth that he did not see the said Constable or his
Assistants strike any blows during the Affray.
