Comonalty and Citizens of London and their Successors The Manner of<lb></lb>
Bridewell and Bridewell place near St. Brides in London and severall Messuages in<lb></lb>
London and elsewhere for the benefitt of the Hospitalls of St. Thomas Christ and<lb></lb>
Bridewell and made the said Major Comonalty and Citizens of London Governors. of<lb></lb>
the Revenues and possessions of the said Hospitalls And Incorporated them by the<lb></lb>
Name of the Governors of the possessions Revenues and Goods of the Hospitalls of<lb></lb>
Edwd. Ring of England the Sixth of Christ Bridewell and St. Thomas the Apostle<lb></lb>
and thereby gave power to the said Governors. from time to time to name appoint and ordaine<lb></lb>
such and so many Officers and Servants and Governors. under them in the Hospitalls<lb></lb>
from time to time to take care Care of the Poor therein as to them should seen good & convenient.</p>
<p n="1339">That ever since the said Incorporacon the said Hospitall of St. Thomas hath<lb></lb>
been under the Care and Managemt: of diverse persons appointed under the said Maior<lb></lb>
Comonalty and Citizens as Governors there and they have from time to time Chosen in and<lb></lb>
removed the necessary Officers and Servants there.</p>
<p n="1340">That the said Sub: Governors: the 21th. of Novr: 1673: at a Court then holden<lb></lb>
for the said Hospitall Chose the said Doctr: Torlesse to be Physician of the said Hospll.<lb></lb>
to continue dureing the good Will and pleasure<gap reason="illegible"></gap>
of that Court & not<lb></lb>
otherwise. And at a Generall Court holden the 13th: of January 1692: Chose the<lb></lb>

<p n="1341">That Wee have not entred into the Consideracon of the Right of<lb></lb>
Visiting the said Hospitalls nor of the Matters objected the said<lb></lb>
Doctor and Surgeon for which they were removed In regard wee Judge them not to<lb></lb>
be materiall in relacon to the Cases of Doctor Torlesse and Mr. Elton for the<lb></lb>
Doctor and Surgeon of the said Hospitall haveing not any fixed Interest in their<lb></lb>
Imployments by Verchie of the said Charters or any By Laws of the Hospl.<lb></lb>

humbly of Opinion that the said Governors. had power to remove them at their<lb></lb>
Will and pleasure without Rendring any Reason for soe doeing And they haveing<lb></lb>
removed the said Doctor and Surgeon they are not Releivable by the Visitor of<lb></lb>
the said Hospitall or otherwise And that therefore it will be for the Service of<lb></lb>
your Majesty and for the Benefitt of the Poor and infirme in the said Hospitall<lb></lb>
of St. Thomas That the Governors: be permitted to proceed to a Choice of a Doctor<lb></lb>
and Surgeon for the said Hospitall.</p>
