<p n="917">It not remaining probable that I<lb></lb>
should be chosen to succeed to the Surveyorship of<lb></lb>

, was I to abide the Election, as<lb></lb>
an apparent Majority of the Votes stand engaged to<lb></lb>
One Candidate, Under such circumstances I should<lb></lb>
be much wanting in respect to those Gentlemen who <lb></lb>
were pleased to promise the their support, by rendering<lb></lb>
their Suffrage useless, and particularly culpable in<lb></lb>
giving unnecessary trouble and<gap reason="illegible"></gap>
I not decline any<lb></lb>
further contention on the present vacancy. At the same<lb></lb>
time beg leave to return my most grateful acknowledgements<lb></lb>
to those Gentlemen who on this occasion wished to serve me<lb></lb>
and Flatter myself that on a future Vacancy I shall be<lb></lb>
encouraged with a more general support I have the<lb></lb>
Honor to be Gentlemen<lb></lb>
with the greatest respect</p>
