That in or about the beginning of the month of February<lb></lb>
last, certain disputes having arisen between the <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMPS50587_occ107">Coalheavers</rs>

masters, on account of wages, the said coalheavers, upon the<lb></lb>
refusal of the masters to comply with their demands, as being in<lb></lb>
the opinion of the masters, exorbitant and what the trade would not<lb></lb>
bear, unanimously determined to desist from their labour; whereby a<lb></lb>
total Stop was put to the business of unloading coals in the <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMPS50587_geo183">port of<lb></lb>
london</rs>

number of eight hundred & upwards, chiefly irishmen, did on or about<lb></lb>
the 20th day of the same February, assemble in a riotous & tumultuous<lb></lb>
manner at <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMPS50587_geo184">Wapping, Shadwell</rs>

and commit divers outrages on the persons & dwellings of many of the<lb></lb>
inhabitants then & there resident.</p>
<p n="322">That the said rioters continued such their unlawful assemblies &<lb></lb>

outrages for several Weeks, thereby spreading terror & consternation<lb></lb>
through the whole eastern quarter of the said county: And on or about<lb></lb>
the 20th. day of April last invested the house of one Green situate in<lb></lb>
or near Wapping, with intent, as they the said rioters declared, to murder him.</p>
