Opportunity said that He had been with Mr. Chapman; and further said, I am here Now; Mr.

Crawford then rose from his Chair & said for God's Sake Mr. Steirn be Quiet Steirn replyed

that his Honour had been greatly injured, That He had been treated like a Theif & Adultorer,

Mathews replyed, Mr. Steirn you had better be Quiet you will only expose Yourself and added

Mr. Steirn said that He, Mathews, was jealous of him, Steirn, with Mathew's Wife, and that

he, Steirn, said he would give him reason to be jealous, which he, Steirn, did by running after her

up & down Stairs: After many disagreable Expressions on both sides Steirn made a turn to the

vacant part of the Room towards the Window about 2 yards from, & opposite to Mr. Mathews &

then this Depont. was surprized with the flash & Reports of 2 peices of fire arms & believes they
<
lb

>
were Pistolls after wch Steirn attempting to make his Escape this Depont. caught hold of his Collar &
<

>
there him on the Ground & afterwards delivered him to more powerfull Custody: and then next view
<

this Depont. had of Mr. Mathews was lying on the Ground blooding & expiring & white this Depont. was
<
lb

astride of Mr. Steirn on the Ground Steirn said he was not Sorry that He mean in Mathews was dead
<

but that he Steirn had not killed himself Depont. further says. that white he staid in the same Room two
<
lb

pistolls were taken upon the same Room & Deponent beleives they were the same that are now shown,
