Inhabitants of the said parish exhibited their humble peticon &<lb></lb>
appeale unto the Court of the last General Quarter Sessions of the<lb></lb>
peace begun and holden for this County on <rs type="date" id="LMSMPS50270_date138">Monday the twenty<lb></lb>
ninth day of June last</rs>

setting forth that the peticoners are rated<lb></lb>
and assessed towards the releif of the poor of the said parish of <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMPS50270_geo481">St.<lb></lb>
Mary White Chappel</rs>

for this present year one thousand Seven <lb></lb>
hundred & thirty the several sumes of money under the said<lb></lb>
peticon and appeale at each particular name respectively set<lb></lb>
downe by the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said<lb></lb>
parish and some other Inhabitants, and the same is called a<lb></lb>
discretionary Rate, And that the peticoners thought themselves<lb></lb>
aggreived by such a discretionary Rate, and hoped to prove to the said<lb></lb>
Court the same to be rather a partial & unequall Rate, For in fact<lb></lb>
their discretion is to ease such who are their Freinds & Favourites<lb></lb>
And that several of the peticoners rent houses of six seven and eight<lb></lb>
pounds p Ann, and carry on small busyness to support their <lb></lb>
Familys, yet are rated one silling & six pence and same two<lb></lb>
shillings P Month others who pay Sixteen or eighteen pound<lb></lb>
P Ann are rated two shillings and Six pence and three shillings<lb></lb>
P Month, which is as much as several others are rated wh<obscured></obscured>
<lb></lb>
pay double the rent and deale for double the money in way of<lb></lb>
trade, and particularly one of the present Churchwardens whose<lb></lb>
house is thirty five pounds P Ann was rated last year but two<lb></lb>
Shillings and four pence P month and tis presumed is rated no <lb></lb>
more this Yeare, and that several other Inhabitants who rent <lb></lb>
houses of upwards of ten pounds P Ann are not rated at all <lb></lb>
though their rent makes each of them an Inhabitant, And that<lb></lb>
several persons in the said parish who have places in the several<lb></lb>
publick offices as the Custome houses Navy Office Victualling Officer<obscured></obscured>
