out of which he constantly paid to the Clerk of the<lb></lb>
Goal Delivery the Clerks of the peace or other Officers of the respective Courts<lb></lb>
aforesaid the Sum of Six Shillings and two pence and to the Keeper or<lb></lb>
Goaler of his Majestys Goal of Newgate the Sum of Fourteen Shillings and<lb></lb>
Ten pence making in the whole the Sum of One pound and One Shilling for<lb></lb>
each Transport that some time after the late Act abovementioned took place<lb></lb>
he Contracted with the <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMGO55607_occ325">Lords Commissioners of the Treasury</rs>

for the management<lb></lb>
and direction of the Convicts that should be sentenced to hard labour on the<lb></lb>

according to the said Act that on ponesal of the Act he<lb></lb>
Observed that the fees which he had heretofore constantly paid to the several<lb></lb>
Officers abovementioned for the Orders of Transportation were by the Act now<lb></lb>
charged upon the County Treasurer and that therefore he did not mention the<lb></lb>
said fees in his proposals to Government nor were they Considered in his last<lb></lb>
agreement with <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55607_geo799">the Treasury</rs>

for the carrying into Execution the purposes of<lb></lb>
the said Act that Government under their present Agreement with <rs type="persName" id="LMSMGO55607_n802-1">Mr.<lb></lb>
Campbell</rs>

must thus Consequently have actually Saved the Sum of One<lb></lb>
found One Shilling in the Expence of Each Convictend as the said Sum<lb></lb>
of One pound and One Shilling was never before Charged or Chargeable<lb></lb>
upon the County Treasurer but was always paid by the Contractor for the<lb></lb>
Transportation of Felons It is the Opinion of the Committee that as the<lb></lb>
County is already very heavily burthened by the Support of great numbers<lb></lb>
of Women and Boys as well as Men Convicts sentenced to Confinement<lb></lb>
and Labour in the Houses of Correction belonging to the said County<lb></lb>
under the said Act which also have been altered for their reception at a<lb></lb>
very great Expence and which burthen by the Continual increase in<lb></lb>
daily becoming heavier as well as for the apprehension Support Conveyanced<lb></lb>
and punishment of Various other Offenders besides many other Expences<lb></lb>
falling upon the <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55607_geo800">County of Middlesex</rs>

as being from its situation the general<lb></lb>
receptible of idle and disorderly people from every other part of the Kings<lb></lb>
Dominions a proper petition in the name of his Majestys <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMGO55607_occ326">justices of the peace</rs>

for this County founded upon and Stating the foregoing facts be presented to<lb></lb>
the Lords Commissioners of his Majestys Treasury humbly praying that as<lb></lb>
Government have already taken upon themselves the Expences incurred<lb></lb>
in the Execution of the abovementioned Act of Parliament so far as<lb></lb>
regards this County in respect to the Support Etc. of the Convicts employed<lb></lb>
on the Thames they would be pleased to pay the demands made upon the County<lb></lb>
Treasurer by the several persons abovementioned the Justices having<lb></lb>
approved of and appointed Mr. Campbell Overseer under the said Act<lb></lb>
in Compliance with the recommendation of the Ministry in Confidence<lb></lb>
