in the County of Middx hath exhibited his humble Petition unto this Court<lb></lb>
Setting forth That about two Years ago the Petitioner was by<lb></lb>
his Majestys Justices of the Peace appointed Keeper of the Goal<lb></lb>
called <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55603_geo150">New Prison</rs>

<interp inst="LMSMGO55603_geo150" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
, That immediately after his being So<lb></lb>
appointed Keeper he used his utmost Endeavours to inform<lb></lb>
himself as to the Nature of his Office and of the Fees to be<lb></lb>
taken of the Several Prisoners that Should be Committed to<lb></lb>
his Custody When the Petr. was informed by Persons conversant <lb></lb>
with his Predecessors the Keepers of the Said Goal that Eight<lb></lb>
Shillings and Six pence were the accustomed Fees taken by<lb></lb>
them for each Prisoner on their being discharged, but in Order<lb></lb>
to avoid any Censure or any Complaints that might be made<lb></lb>
against the Petr. for taking unjustifiable Fees The Petr.<lb></lb>
applyed himself to the <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMGO55603_occ138">Clerk of the Peace</rs>

for this County to<lb></lb>
know if any Order was Subsisting in Relation to Fees to be<lb></lb>
taken by the Petr. When to his great Surprize he was<lb></lb>
informed that he was intitled to five Shillings and Six pence<lb></lb>
and no more for the Discharge of each Prisoner which the<lb></lb>
Petr. hath constantly adhered to and taken no more, That<lb></lb>
in respect of Felons committed to the Petrs. Custody and by him<lb></lb>
removed to Newgate the Petr.is intitled to no Fees, and as to the<lb></lb>
poorer Sort of People who may happen to fall Sick or dye the<lb></lb>
Petr. is obliged to provide for and bury them, and as for Women<lb></lb>
who are delivered in the Prison he defrays the Charges of Midwise<lb></lb>
Etc for all which he hath no Sort of Allowance whatever, That in<lb></lb>
Order to Secure Such desperate Persons as are Committed to the<lb></lb>
Petrs. Custody Several Servants are necessary, the Wages of whom<lb></lb>
amount to more than £50. per Annum, which added to the Sum of £20.<lb></lb>
Per Annum paid by the Petr. to the Treasurer of the County for the <lb></lb>
Repairs done to the Goal and other incidental Expences and £10.<lb></lb>
to the Matron of <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55603_geo151">Bridewell</rs>

amount in the whole atleast to £100.<lb></lb>
