of Money have been paid to him by any & what Churchwarden<lb></lb>

District and whom by Name for the purposes aforesaid And<lb></lb>
also to Examine what Sum or Sums of Money are in arrear<lb></lb>
& unpaid upon the said Rate from the Churchwarden or<lb></lb>
Churchwardens of any and what parishes or places within<lb></lb>
such District and whom by Name and if such Churchwarden<lb></lb>
or Churchwardens have received the same And to Order and<lb></lb>
direct such High Constable forthwith to use all legal method<lb></lb>
for obtaining the said Arrears and for his payment of what<lb></lb>
Moneys he hath or shall receive into the hands of the said<lb></lb>

That Your petitioners think it their Duty to represent to this<lb></lb>
Honourable House the very great uncertainty & Defect of the<lb></lb>
Laws relating to the poor of this Kingdom And the Difficulties<lb></lb>
attending the Execution of them, particularly with regard to the<lb></lb>
Settlement & Removall of the poor, & passing of Vagrants.</p>
<p n="2049">That your petitioners always apprehended it to be the<lb></lb>
Intention of <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMGO55601_occ2794">the Legislature</rs>

in the many Statutes made for<lb></lb>
the Relief of the poor And Setling or passing of them that these<lb></lb>
several<gap reason="illegible"></gap>
Statutes were most proper to be executed. by the<lb></lb>
Justices Residing in the several parishes, And this the rather<lb></lb>
in regard the Act of the 43d. of <rs type="persName" id="LMSMGO55601_n2049-1">Queen Elizabeth</rs>
<interp inst="LMSMGO55601_n2049-1" type="given" value="Elizabeth"></interp>
<interp inst="LMSMGO55601_n2049-1" type="surname" value="Queen"></interp>
<interp inst="LMSMGO55601_n2049-1" type="gender" value="female"></interp>
And most<lb></lb>
of the Subsequent Acts relating to the poor expressly direct<lb></lb>
That the powers thereby given to the Justices should be<lb></lb>
Executed by such of them who dwell in or near the respective<lb></lb>
parishes.</p>
<p n="2050">Your petitioners also apprehend this to have been<lb></lb>
the Constant practice throughout the Kingdom ever since<lb></lb>
the makeing of those Laws.</p>
