Poors Rate 8s/4d Weekly. £1.13.4 Monthly £5 quarterly: That the<lb></lb>
Parish have continued such Rate upon such Wards for the poors<lb></lb>
ever since to the detriment & loss of the Charity.</p>
<p n="39">That about the YearAn Elaboratory also<lb></lb>
hath been Erected for the Service of the Hospital only upon Ground<lb></lb>
within the Liberty & Precinct thereof which the sd, Churchwardens<lb></lb>
Overseers & Inhabitants have Assessed after the Rate of £2.18 a Year<lb></lb>
as followeth that is to say the Mayor Commonalty & Citizens of the<lb></lb>
City of London Governors of the House of the poor commonly called St<lb></lb>
Bartholomews Hospital near Westsmithfield London, of the<lb></lb>
Foundation of King Henry the 8th. for their Elaboratory where sevl.<lb></lb>
Houses stood which were used to be charged in the poors Rate Weekly1s<obscured></obscured>
<lb></lb>
Monthly 4s.. Quarterly 12s. which Rate hath been continued & now<lb></lb>
continues to be rated to the detriment & loss of the Charity.</p>
<p n="40">That all the sd. 4 Pyles of Buildings being finished in 1766,<lb></lb>
the Governors pulled down 19 Old Houses & Shops (part of the sd. Antient<lb></lb>
Buildings) to make an Area to the Hospital for the benefit of the<lb></lb>
patients which is a void anoccupied space of Grand & about 66<lb></lb>
Yards by 60 for which the sd. Parish Officers have Assessed & rated the<lb></lb>
sd. Governors after the rate of £41.5 a year-as followeth that is to<lb></lb>
say "The Mayor Commonally & Citizens of the City of London Governors<lb></lb>
"of the House of the Poor commonly called St. Bartholomews Hospital near<lb></lb>
"Westsmithfield London of the Foundation of King Henry the 8th. for Land<lb></lb>
"on which stood Tenements & Houses (within the Quadrangle of the sd<lb></lb>
"Hospital beside such as were before by them pulled down & demolished)<lb></lb>
"by them pulled down & demolished the Tenants whereof were used to be<lb></lb>
"charged in the Poors Rate 17s & 2d<obscured></obscured>
.2 Weekly £3.8.9 Monthly £10.6.3<lb></lb>
"quarterly". and which sd. Sums of £20. £22.8 & £41.5 making in all<lb></lb>
£63.13 a year (over & above what is charged upon their respective<lb></lb>
Officers residing in the Hospital) was for the Year 1767 & now continues<lb></lb>
to be Assessed & rated on the sd. Governors in respect of the Premes.</p>
<p n="41">That your Petitioners are Adviced & humbly Insist that<lb></lb>
Your Petitioners servts. or Poor Patients Inhabitants or occupiers<lb></lb>
of the sd. premes are not liable nor ought to be charged any thing to<lb></lb>
the Poors Rate.. in respect of the sd. Hospital Elaboratory or void space<lb></lb>
of Ground.</p>
<p n="42">Therefore your petitioners humbly Appeal from<lb></lb>
such rate & Assessment, in regard to the sd. above</p>
