Quarter Session of the peace for the same a City assembled.</p>
<p n="260">The humble Petition of the several Master Taylors of the City of<lb></lb>
London whose Names are hereunto subscribed on behalf of themselves<lb></lb>
and the rest of the Master Taylors of the same City.</p>

<lb></lb>
That by the Act of Parliament made in the seventh Year<lb></lb>
of His present Majestys Reign intituled And Act for Regulating the<lb></lb>
Journey men Taylors within the Weekly Bills of Mortality It was enacted<lb></lb>
that the Hours of Work for all Journeymen Taylors Servants and Appren-<lb></lb>
tice to Taylors within the Cities of London and <rs type="placeName" id="LMSLPS15067_geo198">Westminster</rs>
<interp inst="LMSLPS15067_geo198" type="placeName" value="Westminster"></interp>
<interp inst="LMSLPS15067_geo198" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
and the Weekly<lb></lb>
Bills of Mortality should be from six of the Clock in the Morning until<lb></lb>
eight of the Clock at Night; excepting only that there should be allowed<lb></lb>
by the Master one penny half penny a Day for Breakfast and one<lb></lb>
Hour for Dinner in the time aforesaid; and that for the said time or Hours<lb></lb>
of Work aforesaid there should be paid unto every Journeyman Taylor<lb></lb>
for his Work during the Hours aforesaid the Wages and<obscured></obscured>
ins following<lb></lb>
that is to say from the five and Twentieth Day of March to the four and<lb></lb>
Twentieth Day of June any Sum not exceeding two Shillings per Diem;<lb></lb>
and for the Rest of the Year one Shilling and eight Pence per Diem.</p>
<p n="262">That before the passing of that law the usual Hours of Work<lb></lb>
for the Journeymen Taylors were greater and their Wages less; but several<lb></lb>
Combinatione having arose from time to time<obscured></obscured>
gst the Journey men<lb></lb>
as appears by the Preamble of that Statute, to raise their Wages and<lb></lb>
lessen their Hours of Work, the plain Intent of that law was to prevent<lb></lb>
those Disputes for the future.</p>
<p n="263">But such Statute having given the <rs type="occupation" id="LMSLPS15067_occ130">Justices of the peace</rs>

General Quarter Sessions, in their respective Jurisdictions within the<lb></lb>
