) remained unpaid-that upon the first<lb></lb>
report of the Mr. Smith's Insolvency, the Church Wardens had<lb></lb>
applied to him to give some security for what was due<lb></lb>
to the Parish-that they had obtained a Bill for £300.<lb></lb>
drawn on one Mr. Jas. Peto, which was refused acceptance<lb></lb>
and afterwards took an assignment with a power of-<lb></lb>

from Mr. Smith to receive that sum of Mr. Peto, but<lb></lb>
a Commission of Bankruptcy having issued agt. Mr. Smith<lb></lb>
before said £300. became payable, there was now no<lb></lb>
prospect of receiving more from his Effects than would be<lb></lb>
produced from the Commission, in common with other Creditors,<lb></lb>
and it was understood the Estate would not produce above<lb></lb>
Seven Shillings and Six Pence in the pounds.</p>
<p n="2995">And Mr. Church Warden Dod laid before the Vestry a State<lb></lb>
of Mr. Smith's account, as receiv'd from himself, distinguish-<lb></lb>
ing the several Items of Monies received and paid, and<lb></lb>
upon which the said deficiency of near £470. remained<lb></lb>
as a Balance against him. And the said Account being<lb></lb>
further explained by Mr. Tutet, and the matter fully discuss'd<lb></lb>
It appeared to be the Sense of the Vestry, that it was proper<lb></lb>
to consider, not only of raising a sum of Money to make<lb></lb>
up the aforesaid deficiency, but to guard against and<lb></lb>
prevent (as far as possible) any accident of the same<lb></lb>
sort happening in future.</p>
<p n="2996">With regard to the raising a sum of Money, Mr.<lb></lb>
Tutet observed that there had been a meeting the<lb></lb>
preceding Evening of several of the Inhabitants who had<lb></lb>
Pass'd the Chair and that they had agreed to lay two<lb></lb>
Propositions befoer this Vestry for their Consideration-and<lb></lb>
the same being read and an amendment made thereto<lb></lb>
It was moved</p>
<p n="2997">1st. That the Church Wardens be empowered to raise a<lb></lb>
