on the 28th, day of July 1773 at the<lb></lb>

in the Liberty of Westmr. being<lb></lb>
in a certain Lime Barge then and there being in a certain River<lb></lb>
called the <rs type="placeName" id="WACWIC65213_geo1217">River Thames</rs>

and near unto the Flood Gates, it so<lb></lb>
happened that the said <rs type="persName" id="WACWIC65213_n1532-3">John Clay</rs>

having a hand spike in his<lb></lb>
hand and using it betwixt the head of the Barge and the<lb></lb>
Compshed with an intent to save the Base from running<lb></lb>
against the Bank, the said Hand spike gave way and<lb></lb>
slipt from him by means whereof he the said <rs type="persName" id="WACWIC65213_n1532-4">John Clay</rs>

Borse into the said River, and in the Waters thereof was then<lb></lb>
and there suffocated and Drowned, of which said Suffocation<lb></lb>
