as follows ViztIn<lb></lb>
Pursuance of an order of last Court this Comittee have enquired<lb></lb>
into the Duty and profits of the Office of Steward of this Hospital & imported<lb></lb>
the Account laid before the Court the 6th. of May 1736 by the Officers & Servts.<lb></lb>
of both Hospitals what they Apprehend to be their Care Duty and Trust<lb></lb>
<obscured></obscured>
And do conceive that the Duty of the Steward of Bridewell is</p>
<p n="867">To wait on New Governors with Staves & acquaint them with their Election<lb></lb>
To Collect the rents & Annuitys payable to this Hospital<lb></lb>
To provide and Deliver out the Diet daily for the prisoners<lb></lb>
To receive of the HempDresser what becomes due for the Prisoners Labor<lb></lb>
To Direct the Workmen to do such repairs as Ordered by the Comittee<lb></lb>
To direct such Repairs as by Accidents or decay may become imediately and<lb></lb>
absolutely Necessary to be done and all other of Small Charge and<lb></lb>
Expences not Exceeding 40s.</p>
<p n="868">To Examine the Workmens and Tradesmens bills & see that they be right, &<lb></lb>
pay them as the Committee directs</p>
<p n="869">To Attend to all Courts and Comittees of this Hospital to be ready to be called<lb></lb>
in as Occasion shall happen and to Observe such Directions as he shall<lb></lb>
receive from time to time.</p>
<p n="870">And the Comittee are of Opinion to make a Small Alteration of the<lb></lb>
Order of the 7th. of May 1647 for the Prisoners Diet had that for the pt. time it shoud<lb></lb>
be for each Prisoner for a Day & Night as follows Vizt</p>
<p n="871">on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays.</p>
<p n="872">B Ten Ounces of good beef boyld without boneOne Winchester pint of Pottage<lb></lb>
one penny loaf of the best Wheaten breadOne Winchester quart of one small<lb></lb>
beer at noon and a print at Night</p>
<p n="873">On Wednesdays, Fridays, & Saturdays<lb></lb>
Three Ounces of butter or four Ounces of good Cheshire or Warwattshire Cheese<lb></lb>
one Winchester pint of good Milk Pottage, and bread and beer as on other days</p>
<p n="874">And that the Provisions shou'd be weighed and Measured in the presence of<lb></lb>
the Porter or his Man to be Distributed among the Prisoners as usualAnd<lb></lb>
that the Particulars of the Diet shoud be fierly written & hung up in Each of<lb></lb>
the Workshops in this Hospital.</p>
<p n="875">And this Comittee are of Opinion that the Workmens books wch are now<lb></lb>
left at the Porters stand for the future be left at the Stewards and that the Workmen<lb></lb>
shoud therein Enter every Night all the Work and Materials that day done and<lb></lb>
furnished for this HospitalAnd that the Steward do inspect the Workmen<lb></lb>
Employed in the Hospital or precinct And take an Accot. of the Number of Men<lb></lb>
every day and that he shoud also Weigh & take an Accot. of all Iron, Lead, Stands &c.<lb></lb>
that shall be brot. into or taken out of this House for the use of the Hospital</p>
<p n="876"> <note type="authorial" place="margin">C.</note>
<lb></lb>
And this Comittee find the yearly profits of the Steward to be as follows Vizt<lb></lb>
His Salary £32for Hoses Shoes and Shirts about £2In lieu of pmt. fees £2<lb></lb>
and 7 Chaldon of Coles computed at £10.10In all £46..10<lb></lb>
besides his Appartment in the Hospital & a little profit he may have by that <obscured></obscured>
</p>
<p n="877">And upon the whole M<obscured></obscured>
er the Comittee are of opinion That as the Steward is<lb></lb>
a place of Trust and a good deal of business the before mentioned Allowances are<lb></lb>
not Adequate to the Care and Trouble And that it woud be proper to increase<lb></lb>
the Steward Salary if the Court shou'd think fit All wch is Nevertheless Submitted<lb></lb>
to the Judgment of the Court. This Court having duly Weighed and Considered<lb></lb>
the said Report doth Confirm the same.</p>
<p n="878">And it is Ordered that the Stewards Salary of £32 for the future be<lb></lb>
£50 P Ann</p>
