the words followingThat it appears to us by the Books in the Hospitall<lb></lb>
that there are several Governors of these Hospitals now being in health and very<lb></lb>
way qualified to serve as Stewards who tho applyed to for that purpose, from<lb></lb>
time to time either neglect or refuse to serveThat several of us the present<lb></lb>
Stewards ought not according to a due Rotation to officiate this year Yet to supply<lb></lb>
the want of those Gentleman who ought in course to serve and refuse, and to<lb></lb>
prevent inconveniencies we have acceptedThat Mr. Gilbert one of the<lb></lb>
Governors whose turn it is to serve this year has sent to us Twelve Pounds<lb></lb>
with a Message that it was as a Fine to execuse him from serving, Upon which<lb></lb>
we sent him for Answer that we would get the opinion of the Court thereon<lb></lb>
That more difficultys have arisen this year than usual in endeavouring to<lb></lb>
prevail with Governors to serve and we are fearfull it may encrease for the<lb></lb>
future unless some time precaution be hadTherefore we here lay<lb></lb>
before the Court an Expedient which we apprehend may prevent the same for<lb></lb>
the future Vizt.</p>
<p n="4266">"That the Governors be wrote to in their turns as usual to serve as Stewards of the<lb></lb>
"Election Feasts and if any Governor shall for two years together refuse to serve<lb></lb>
"either in person or by Proxy, he shall be struck out of the List of Governors, unless<lb></lb>
"he shall within that time pay to the Treasurer for the time being Twenty Pounds<lb></lb>
"to be applyed as the Court shall direct and in case of such payment the<lb></lb>
"Gentleman paying to be continued in the List of Govrs. as if they had actually served<obscured></obscured>
</p>
<p n="4267">That in regard Mr. Gilbert (who is in the Country) apprehended twelve pounds<lb></lb>
sufficient to excuse him and his paying it being as we are informed the first instance<lb></lb>
of that kind, we are of Opinion if the Court shall think fit, that Mr. Gilbert<lb></lb>
be excused from serving the office of Steward and his name continue in the List<lb></lb>
of those Gentlemen who have served StewardsWe are induced to make this<lb></lb>
Representation because it appears to us by the Books that on the 16th. of May 1718<lb></lb>

Doth Order that the Twelve pounds sent by Mr. Gilbert be returned him<lb></lb>
and he acquainted that unless he serve Steward the next Year he will be<lb></lb>
Struck out of the List of Governors of these Hospitals.</p>

<p n="4269">Mr. Treasurer reported to this Court that Mr. <rs type="persName" id="BBBRMG20205_n4269-1">Joseph Withers</rs>

desired by the Committee of this House to employ two persons to keep the Prisoners<lb></lb>
to work till a new Hempdresser was chosen and to provide Hemp for them to be<lb></lb>
beat and the Comittee would take care he should not be a Sufferer by itAnd<lb></lb>
the said Mr. Withers laid before the Comittee the following Account of the<lb></lb>
Prisoners labour for 15 days past and the Charge he has<obscured></obscured>
in employing<lb></lb>
