401. SOPHIA OWEN proceedingsdefend This name instance is in a workspace. was indicted for stealing a pair of linen sheets, value 8 s. and a child's linen frock, value 2 s. the property of William Tugwell proceedingsvictim , June 30th .

- TUGWELL sworn.

I am the wife of William Tugwell < no role > ; we lodge in Stone-cutter-street, Fleet-market . Last Friday I went out to the next door for about five minutes; when I returned I met the prisoner on the steps with the things mentioned in the indictment in her apron. I stopped her, and asked her what she had got in her apron? she said her sister's clothes. I desired to look at them. I found my child's frock and a pair of linen sheets in her apron. I charged the constable with her.

( William Wilson < no role > , the constable, produced the sheets and frock, and they were deposed to by the prosecutrix.)

PRISONER's DEFENCE.

I was very much in liquor; I did not know the next morning what I was in custody for.

GUILTY . Imprisoned 6 months .

Tried by the First London Jury before Mr. RECORDER.
