289. John Dirk Sangemeler proceedingsdefend , was indicted for stealing one silver watch, val. 50 s. the goods of John Dirk Coleman proceedingsvictim in the Dwelling-House of John Edwards < no role > , Feb. 9 .

John Dirk Coleman < no role > . I live in the house of John Edwards < no role > ; I went down stairs, and left my watch, hanging in my room, and returned home in half an hour. As soon as I entered my room I missed it, and was told the prisoner had been there. I went out to look for him, and found him the same night, and taxed him with being in my room ; he swore he had not. I told him I had lost my watch, he said he was very sorry; I took him up, searched him, but found not the watch.

Joseph Pain < no role > . I live in St. Martin's Court; I saw the prisoner come out of the prosecutor's room a little time before the watch was missing.

John Kitts < no role > . I am a pawn-broker in Chandois street, On the 9th of February the prisoner brought the watch to me to pawn (it was produced in court.) When he brought it me, he said it was his own.
