Examination Text | Judith Brooks aged about 49 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Andrew Holborn above the Bars in the County of Middlesex upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Edward Brooks (who died last December) to whom she was married at Bishopsgate Church 17 years ago, that he was a Vintner by trade and was bound an apprentice to Mr France, who kept the Tilt Yard Coffee House by the Horse Guards in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid and there served all his time out, but when the said expired she this Examinant can't tell [sic], that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish taxes since her said husband's death. Taken in the workhouse the 23rd Day of February 1750. |
