Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Mackenzie in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. George in the East in the County of Middlesex taken this [blank] Day of [blank] 1775. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 19 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Grigg a Taylor in that part of Rose Street which is in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of three years at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about one year ago, that she hath not kept house rented tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that George Grigg a Taylor in Rose Street aforesaid did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said George Grigg is the true and only father thereof and no man else, and that he the said George Grigg is dead.
