Examination TextThe Examination of Hannah Fell lodging at No.6 Banbury Court in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this fourth Day of October in the year 1784. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 23 years of age, that she never was married bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, that her Father Charles Fell is a Shoemaker by trade and lived in and rented an house in that part of Rose Street which is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of 19 years at the yearly rent of 12 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about 11 years ago, that her father hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is big with child or children which is or are likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin the Fields, and that James Jones a journeyman Coachmaker who works at Mr Hatchett in Long Acre had carnal knowledge of her body some time in or about the month of February last on a bed up three pair of stairs at the house of Mr Wingrove Hair Dresser in Rose Street and several times afterwards in the same place at which time or one of which times he the said James Jones did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Jones is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
