Examination TextCharles Gardiner Smith aged 29 Years upon his Oath saith that while Single & Unmarried he was a Yearly hired Servant in the capacity of a Waiter to Mr Holloway who kept New Slaughters Coffee House in Saint Martins Lane in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields within the liberty of Westminster for the space of One Year and Eight Months all under one hiring at the Yearly Wages of Eighteen Pounds Diet & lodging quitted the same the beginning of the Year 1783 since which he hath not been a Yearly hired Servant in any one place for Twelve Months together nor done any Act whereby to gain any subsequent Settlement that he was Married to his present Wife Mary at the Parish Church of Pitchford in the County of Gloucester about Three Years ago by whom he hath issue one Child to wit Charles aged One Year & a Half now at Swansea Glamorganshire. // Sworn this 19th Day of August 1788 before John Collick // [signed Charles Gardiner] // NSW // P
