Examination TextJane Priestley Aged 18 Years removed by an Order of Two of His Majesty?s Justices of the Peace from & out of the Parish of Twickenham in the County of Middlesex to the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields upon her Oath saith she never was Married nor bound an Apprentice that she was a Yearly hired Servant with Mrs Mountford No.463 in that part of the Strand which is in the Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster for the space of One Year & ffive Months all under one hiring at the Yearly Wage of Three Pounds diet and lodging quitted the same about 2 Years ago since which she was never was a Yearly hired Servant in any one Place for Twelve Months together nor done any Act whereby to gain any subsequent Settlement. And this Examinant upon her voluntary Oath further saith that She is now big with Child or Children which is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards & to become chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields and that William Martin who is a Husbandman, & who worked with Mr. Newman at Teddington in the County of Middlesex had several Times carnal knowledge of her Body & at one of these Times did beget the said Child or Children She now goeth with & is pregnant of and that he the said William Martin is the true & only ffather thereof & no Man else but where he is now She cannot tell. // Sworn this 10th Day of September 1787 John Collick // [signed Jane Priestly] // SAW // P
