to wit,


An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Dwelling House of James Joveys< no role > the sign of the Feathers in Dean Street in the Parish of
Saint Margaret within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church
of St. Peter, Westminster , in the County of Middlesex , the twenty seventh day of July 1798
in the thirty eight Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third,
by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith,
and so forth, before Anthony Gell< no role > , Esq . Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City
and Liberty, on View of the Body of a new born female Infant Child then and there
lying dead, upon the Oath of the Several Jurors whose Names are here under written, and
Seals affixed, good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly chosen, who being then and
there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by
what Means the said female Infant Child came to h er Death, do upon
their Oath say that some Person or Persons unknown not having the fear of God before
his, her, or their Eyes but moved an reduced by the Instigation of the Devil out he twenty
sixth day of July in the year aforesaid, with force and Arms at the Parish and in the Liberty
aforesaid in and upon the said female Infant Child then and there being in the peace of
God and of our said Lord the King, Feloniously wilfully and of his her or their Malice
Forethought, did make on Assault. And that the said Person or Persons unknown
feloniously wilfully and of his her or their Malice forethought did neglect, at the Birth
of the said female Infant Child, to tye the Navel-String of the said female Infant Child
And that they the said Persons unknown on the said twenty saith day of July in the
year aforesaid did wrap up the said female Infant Child in a piece of chequed Cloth an
in a Flag. Basket and did deposit and leave the same in the said female Infant Child so wrapped up as aforesaid in the Church Yard of the
Parish of Saint Margaret aforesaid within the Liberty aforesaid by reason of which
wilful Neglect as aforesaid the same female Infant Child came to her death
And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid, do say that
the said Person or Persons unknown her the said Infant Female
Child in manner and by the means aforesaid feloniously wilfully and
of his her or their Malice forethought did Kill and murder against the peace
afour said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity And that the said Persons or
Persons unknown after committing the Felony and Murder aforesaid
withdrew and fled for the same.

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said Jurors, have to this Inquisition
set their Hands and Seals the Day, Year, and Place first above written.
