Informations of Witnesses
taken this 11 Decr 1797 at the
Dwelling House of James Reed< no role > the Sign of
the Old Cheshire Cheese in old Russell Court parish of
St. Martin in the Fields on view of the Body of
Henry Muttlow< no role > .
James Hawes< no role > Carman to Mr Smith Cambell & Travers Swithins Lane
Canon Street Wholesail Grocers
being Sworn saith that,
he was employed by them on Friday last 8th to take
2 hhd. of Moist Sugar & other Articles to Mr. Gawthorn Drury
Lane in a waggon Drawn with 3 Horses he arrived there [..] about 2
O' Clock. he has unloaded 100 braked [..] pes of
Sugar & other Articles he was unloading
1 c [..] the hhd. assisted by another person who
was usually passing by they were unloading
without a pully as is generally the Case
to one hhd. that he unloads with a putty he
unloads 100 withoutat this time the Deced
was passing by & accidentally drove the Deced
agst. the Corner of the House of sd. Gawthorn
& injured him greatly in the [..] neither
this Dept. or his assist. could from their
Situation see him. It is not customary in
Business ever to send two Men. the Deced was
immediately taken to a Surgeon but he died
the next day.
