Informations of Witnesses taken this
14 July 1797 at the dwelling House of
the Sign of the Cock in the Hay market
in the parish of St. James on view of the Body of Mary Brooks< no role > an
Infant 17 Months then & there lying dead
Sarah Hagan< no role > Servt to Mrs Sharp in the Hay market
being sworn, saith, that, she was cleaning Copper in the
Washouse which looks into Cock Yard
Yesterday Eveng not 6 O'Clock & as She was
looking through the Window she saw the
Deced falling & passing in the front of the
Window immediately on wch. she heard
a Woman cry out Murder O my Child, this
Dept. went immediately into the Yard &
tucked up the Child the Child then did not speak
It was the Daur of Mary Brooks who lived in
Cock yard. this Dept. heard the Mother of the
Deced say last night that she intended to have
Some laths put in the front of the Window then
the Child might not fall out. She further
Saith that the Child was at the Window
Wiping the Glass with a Bit of Rag the Window
was only fastened with a Button which happend
to give way & the Child fell out the Child never
spoke from the time it was taken up.
