Informations of Witness taken
this 19th. Jany 1797 in the Parish
of St. Paul Covent Garden at the
House ofBoys the Sign of
the Bell in Exeter Street Strand
before Anthony Gell< no role > his Majesty's
Coroner for the said City & Liberty
touching the Death of Grace
Charter

and as follow to wit

Eliz. Wade< no role > a Lodger in Mr. Weeks House No. 10 in
Exeter Street Strand being sworn deposeth that
on Tuesday Evening last the 17th. Instt. when she returned
home abot. ½ past 10 in order to go bed as she
used to sleep with the deceased she went into the
Room in the dark and went to fell if the deceased
was in bed and in going she felt something
at the inner Door and not knowing what it was
she called for a light which when she had gotten
she perceived the deceased hanging by [..]
a Cord round her Neck and fastned to a Nail which
was fixed at the Top of the inner Room Door and
being alarmed at the Sight she called to the People
below Stairs, Several of whom came up directly
and a man named Wm. Billingham< no role > cut the said
Cord
