something which he though ha been the Dog
and [..] therefore went to His work as
usual and whil [..] he was there he told some of
his Companions in a Joke he believed he had
fallen over the Devil that about seven o'Clock
being about to return home and his Sen likewise
with him who [..] generally goes to business about ½ part
nine in the Evening and continues till
the next morning he [..] took a lighted Candle
from the Office as usual and when this
Deponent and his Son open'd the Door of
the sd. House where this Deponent lodged by
means of a Key which he always had
and when they came to the Foot of the Stairs
perceived it and was Mrs. Read and blood on the Flour on both sides of his whereupon he went
this immediately and told his Wife and
likewise ac [..] ted other Lodgers in the house
who came down their as did likewise Mrs
Williams the Landlordy who immediately
sent for Mr. Bainbridge the Parish Beadle
who came soon after and [..] found
the deceased lying (as she was first discovered by
this Deponent and his Son) [..] across thr passage
with her head on the Floor close to the first Step
of one pair of the their and he Feet on the first
and Second Steps of another Flight of back Stairs
opposite

opposite to the for [..] Stairs, in a Room up which
back Stairs the deceased lodged, and after this Depont.
had in found Mrs. [..] Williams the Land Lady with
what had happen'd he set out immediately to
[..] hill to inform John Read< no role > a Son of the
deceased with what he had seen.

This Deponent further say [..] that when he
stumbled over the deceased in the morning
he did not hear the deceased groan nor did
he know it was Mrs. Read or any other
person and he is of opinion that she got
up very early with un Intent to go to the
Hummums to wash and fell down Stairs
which was the Cause of her Death.

the deceased for several Years [..] that she had lodged
with her about two Years that she used to go at the
[..] twice a Week between to and 6 in morning to the Hummums to wash
and Tuesday morning was always one of the times
