Seventeenth day of August 1791.
at the Parish of St. George Hanover
Square within the Liberty of Westmr.
in the County of Middlesex , upon
an Inquisition touching the death
of John Middlemas< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty County

Thomas Dutton< no role > a Lodger at Mr. W. M
Rose Street in the Parish of St, Ann's Westmr.
Cabinet maker on his Oath saith That on
Saturday Evening last he was in Company
with the Deced John Middlemas of when they
agred to go the next Morning to wash
themselves in the Serpentine River in
Hyde Park and the Deced called upon
his Dept, the next Morning about
five O' Clock (the fourteenth Instant) [..]
they Want together into Hyde Park , That
the Deced went into the Serpentine River
and swam a little about, when this
Dep likewise went into the River
and swam down the River, Says that
in coming along he heard the Deced say
that he would [..] across the River
and Dept. saw the Deced swimming across
towards the other side of the River
and was got rather more than half, way
when an alarm was given that [..]
Man was Drowning, and on looking
round he saw the Deced in Danger &
some times going down and Coming up
at last Deced disappeared and Sunk
Says that he swam about there some time
but would not discover him That a [..]
was brought and the Grapples used [..]
day without Success, and that the Deced
