day of February 1785 at the Parish
of St. Ann within the Liberty of Westmr.
in the County of Middlesex upon an
Inquisition touching the Death of
Mary Morris< no role > an Infant lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty & County

Elizabeth Lacey< no role > Servant to Susanna Brook< no role >
a Lodger to Mrs. Elizabeth Barret< no role > of Greek
Street in the Parish of St. Anne Westmr . on her
Oath saith That Mrs. Morris Mother of the
Deced is a Lodger in the Garret in the
same House, Says that on Saturday Evening
last the Nineteen the Instant about half
after Ten o'Clock Dept. had been out on an
Fraud returned, home, and on going
upstairs she heard Mary Morris< no role > the
Deced (an Infant of the age of about
four years)wascrying on the Stairs
Mrs. Ban [..] another Lodger was going
upstairs of the same time, Says that
it being light they asked Deced what
she did with a Candle on the Stairs,
to which Deced Answered that it was
not a Candle but that she was on Fire
upon which Mr. Benjer and Dept. went
into the Deced and Dept. brought her down
into the First Floor and Sprinkled her
all over with Water, the Deced's Cloaths
being on Fire, Says that she out the
Child's Cloths with a pair of Scissars, and
found the Child very much burnt under
teh Arms, around the Neck,andon the
Right side and on the Arms and Hands.
